According to a study it is necessary for us to walk at least 10000 steps a day. It is a good challenge; you can give to yourself so that you can stay fit and healthy for a long time. Seeing the value 10000 may seem pretty large to you as you don’t know the distance covered by 10000 steps. Let’s find out 10000 steps equals to what distance?
The calculations are for an average person whose height and weight is average.
1 Mile = 2000 Steps
1 Km = 1250 Steps
10000 Steps = 5 Miles = 8 Km
According to this calculation, an average person should walk minimum 2000 steps while walking/jogging. You should also calculate the number of steps and the pace men and women take during 20-25 minutes of walk. Then, you should compare with the person who is walking or running or completing one mile within 6-12 minutes. The result shows that people take more steps while running one mile than walking one mile.
For getting exact result, take 10 steps, measure the distance with feet and then divide it by 10. You will get your average length of the stride. After getting your stride length divide 5280, which is the number of steps, making one mile, by the length of the stride.
Nowadays, adults can generally walk up to 5000-6000 steps per day. You must not put in extra effort to walk the remaining 5000-4000 steps. If you don’t get time to walk for 20-25 minutes, then try to walk for 10 minutes. This will help you to start from the beginning with leg pains.
The length of the stride plays an important role as it helps to measure the number of steps walked per mile as it varies depending on the pace you run or walk. If you walk with a constant speed and constant stride length, then you will need fewer steps to complete one mile. Excess walking or running may harm your health and lead to pain in the body muscles.
Suppose, a male client completes the target of 10000 steps per day by covering up 3225 steps through normal daily living activities and the remaining 67776 steps by walking. He walked 15 minutes and covered 3.5 miles. If a 2nd male client also 3.5 miles at a speed of 8 minutes / miles, then you will see, he will only complete 8125 steps daily. Although he took less time than the first client, but because of high intensity, high intensity, the second client could not complete the 10000 steps challenge.

“You should be able to walk 10,000 steps in 10 minutes.”. You think someone should be able to walk 10,000 steps in 10 minutes?? If the average is 2,000 steps is a mile, then 10,000 would be 5 miles. You think someone should be able to walk 5 miles in 10 minutes? ….

I agree here. Does the author believe that humans can easily travel by foot at 30 miles/hour? Obviously not a walker or a step counter. I can generally make 90 steps/minute for a sustained hour. As a teen age I was able to sustain 5 mph which breaks down to 12 minute miles or 10,000 steps per hour. As a former professional proof reader/peer reviewer when people throw around numbers, they need to be accurate. One figure isn’t more or less the same as a different value.
